Privacy
What Convertal collects, who processes it, and the choices you have. Last updated 6 October 2026.
In short
Convertal is a free unit-converter app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, published by Asil Software Limited. There is no account and no sign-in. Your conversion history, saved conversions, and settings are stored only on your device — we never receive them. The app is free because it shows ads, and the data collection that involves is described below. You can remove ads entirely by upgrading to Convertal Pro. To help improve the app you can optionally turn on crash reports and anonymous usage analytics (never your conversions or saved data) — both are off unless you turn them on, and each can be switched independently in the app’s settings.
Who we are
The data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy is Asil Software Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17425736), with its registered office at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. You can reach us about privacy at privacy@convertal.co.uk.
Advertising
The free version of Convertal shows ads through Google AdMob. To select and measure ads, Google’s advertising technology may collect and process information such as your device’s advertising identifier, IP address, approximate (non-precise) location, device characteristics, and your interactions with ads, in line with how Google uses data from sites and apps that use its services.
Depending on your region and choices, ads may be personalised or non-personalised. You control this:
- iPhone/iPad: Convertal honours Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt; you can change tracking permission in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking, and limit ad personalisation in Settings › Privacy & Security › Apple Advertising.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of personalised ads in Settings › Privacy › Ads.
- Where required, you are asked for consent for personalised ads on first launch and can change it later in the app’s settings.
Buying any Convertal Pro plan removes ads and the ad SDK’s related data collection.
Purchases (Convertal Pro)
The ad-free Convertal Pro upgrade (monthly, yearly, or lifetime) is sold as an in-app purchase processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. Your payment details are handled entirely by Apple or Google — we never see or store your card or account number.
We use RevenueCat to verify purchases and keep your Pro status in sync if you reinstall or change device. RevenueCat receives the store’s purchase token and an anonymous, randomly-generated app-user identifier; it does not receive your name or payment details. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.
Crash reporting (diagnostics)
To find and fix bugs, Convertal can send crash reports using Sentry, with the data stored in the European Union. A crash report contains the error and its technical stack trace, your device model, operating-system version, and the app version — the technical detail we need to diagnose the problem. It does not include your conversions or saved data, there is no account or personal profile, no advertising identifier, it is not used for advertising, and it is not sold. We have configured Sentry not to store IP addresses, and the app sends no session tracking — crash reports only. This data is pseudonymous rather than strictly anonymous (a stack trace with your device model is still personal data under the UK/EU GDPR).
Crash reporting is off by default. You are asked about it on first launch (alongside usage analytics) and it only sends anything if you turn it on; you can turn it off again at any time under Settings › Crash Reporting in the app. Sentry processes the diagnostic data on our behalf; see the Sentry privacy policy.
Usage analytics (optional)
If you turn it on, Convertal sends anonymous usage analytics using Aptabase, with the data stored in the European Union. This records which features are used — for example that a category was opened, a conversion was saved, or the upgrade screen was shown — as counts and identifiers only. It never includes the values you type or your conversion results, there is no account or personal profile, no advertising identifier, and it is not used for advertising or sold. Aptabase is designed to be privacy-friendly: it uses no cookies and no persistent device identifier, deriving only a rotating, non-reversible session number.
Usage analytics is off by default. You are asked about it on first launch (alongside crash reporting) and it only sends anything if you turn it on; you can turn it off again at any time under Settings › Usage Analytics in the app, which stops any further events being collected and clears events saved on your device awaiting sending. Aptabase processes this data on our behalf; see the Aptabase privacy policy.
Live currency & crypto rates
When you use the currency or cryptocurrency categories, the app fetches up-to-date public market rates from third-party data providers (exchange rates via the Frankfurter/European Central Bank data set; crypto prices via CoinGecko). These requests carry no personal information about you, though the provider may log the request (for example your IP address) under its own policy. Rates are cached on your device so the app keeps working offline.
What stays on your device
Your last-used units, conversion history, saved conversions and any notes, and your preferences (theme, measurement system, decimal precision) are stored locally on your device only. They are not uploaded to us or to any third party. Deleting the app removes them.
Permissions
Convertal uses internet access only — to load ads and live rates. It does not request your contacts, photos, precise GPS location, microphone, or camera.
Children
Convertal is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Advertising is provided by the partner above under its own policies.
This website
This website (convertal.co.uk) uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use it — for example which pages are viewed and when the “Get the app” button is used — so we can improve it. Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them on the cookie banner; until then Google Analytics stores nothing on your device and your visit does not appear in our analytics (we use Google Consent Mode with analytics denied by default, under which Google’s tag may still send Google a cookieless signal that carries no identifier). Google Analytics processes usage data (including a shortened IP address) on our behalf under Google’s privacy policy; we don’t use it for advertising, don’t sell your data, and don’t try to identify you personally. Our hosting provider may also keep standard server logs for security and reliability. You can change your cookie choice at any time.
Separately, the site keeps its own anonymous count of page views, uses of the online converters and clicks on the app-store links, so we can see whether the site is useful and improve it. Each count records only the day, the page, the kind of site you arrived from (for example “a search engine”) and, for a conversion, which two units were chosen — never the values you type. Counting uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device, and we keep no IP address or other identifier with it, so the counts cannot be linked to you or to each other. The counts stay on our own hosting, are not shared with anyone and are deleted after 13 months. Visits are not counted if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, or if you switch the count off here:
That choice is the one thing the count ever keeps in your browser: it is remembered in local storage and checked on each page, only so that we can honour it.
Your choices and rights
Because we hold no account for you, most of your data is either on your device or processed by the partners named above under their own policies. Subject to applicable law (including the UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, or erase personal data, and to object to certain processing. For ad-related data, use the device controls above or contact Google; for purchase data, contact Apple, Google, or RevenueCat. For anything else, email us at privacy@convertal.co.uk.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves; we’ll revise the “last updated” date above when we do.
